Movies: Gifted

Since 2017 “Gifted” became in my favourite movie, despite the good movies that came out after, Gifted is still my favourite.

Gifted is a drama film directed by Marc Webb and written by Tom Flynn. The film tells the story of Frank Adler (Chris Evans) and his niece Mary Adler (Mckenna Grace), a seven-year-old child who is intellectual gifted. Once Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan), Frank’s mother and Mary’s grandmother, found out this, she wants Mary’s custody.

When I knew that this movie would be released, I have to admit that I wanted to watch it because Chris Evans would be in it. But, after I saw the trailer, I was really interested in the plot because I like stories with gifted characters, besides, I knew Mckenna Grace from others previous jobs, so I was excited to see her acting.

I couldn’t believe how much I loved the movie, and here I am four years later still loving it.

Marc Webb’s movie is beautiful! I remember that I cry on many occasions. The actors do a great job and we can empathize with their characters, even more when we learn about their background. I really love Mary and Frank’s relationship because it’s honest, funny, and like any family, they have disagreements. The scenes are well constructed, you have a lot of memorable moments where the dialogue is simple but wonderful, and sometimes don’t even a dialogue is needed to get into your heart.

If you’ve already watched Gifted, let me know in the comments what you think of the movie. If not, ask me about the movie or tell me what’s your favourite movie.

Education: Welcome to College!

Graduated from high school and started to college are big steps and the beginning of a new chapter. In my opinion, I couldn´t wait to get out of school and don’t have to see my classmates anymore, except for my friends. However, I was a little scare. What if I don´t get in my dreaming university? What if I´m not smart enough? What if I don´t make any friends?... The insecurities that I felt in high school continue until I started my classes in college.

Sadly, because of the Pandemic, I have online classes. Despite that, my experience was quite different that high school, besides the online learning. I made good friends and with them I have many things in common, I enjoy most of my classes and I must study more.

What advice would I give a high school student who is about to go to college?

First, create a routine to study. Second, the night is the best time for study. Third, make friends, they will be your lifeline on many occasions. Fourth, have a desk. It is important because it will help you to be more organize, especially if you have online classes. And last, have fun, enjoy this incredible experience as much as you can.

Religion: My journey

Hello readers, today I’m going to talk about my personal experience with the religion.

Since I born, the Catholic’s religion became an important aspect of my life. Let’s start with my name. My Mom is a deeply religious person, who always participated in the church´s activities and she choose my name, Mariana, which means “devoted to the Virgin Mary”.

After my parents separated, my mom kept her believes but She didn’t go to the church as I anymore. When I found out that Catholic’s religion doesn´t accept divorced parents, I was upset.

Years later, I started to learn about their posture in different topics, I couldn’t believe how they can be so closed-minded. Later, I didn´t consider myself as part of that religion anymore but that doesn’t mean that I lost my faith.

Today I’m just a theist, I believe that there is a God, but I don’t follow any religion in particular, my Mom and other members of my family aren’t very happy, although they respect my decision, except for my father who I didn’t tell.
For this, I think it’s important to find your own believes and don´t let your family or friends take that choice for you.

Health: We all end up getting sick

Illness in a family… that’s hard.

When one of your family members is diagnosed with a disease and the doctors tell you that nothing can be done, just wait for the worst scenario to happen. Death is a horrible feeling. I know this from experience, there wasn’t hope for my grandfather, my family and I watched him slowly getting worse laying on a bed. We could only hold his hand, standing by his side and having a conversation when his condition was not too bad.

I remembered that my uncle didn´t like to see my grandfather in that condition, he never said it that before, but I knew it, because I felt the same. At least we had the chance to said goodbye, not like other people.

The impact of this generated an unbalance in the family. the unity in the family must be present at this time because one of the most affected areas when someone get through this is mental health, which is also the most ignored area in this country.

The psychical condition influences in our body and the way that we deal with life. Maybe you’re a very healthy person who eats well and do exercise, but that doesn’t mean that you can´t suffer from a mental disease.

Is no a secret that Chile has just realized of its importance with the pandemic. And for this reason, it is crucial for us talk about this topic and start to take care of our mental health.

Responsibility of a citizen: Voting

Vote is one of the most democratic actions that exist in the present and it is our responsibility as citizens to state our preferences and choices through the vote.

Vote?

The Cambridge Dictionary define this word as: “to express your choice or opinion, especially by officially writing a mark on a paper or by raising your hand or speaking in a meeting”.

Why the Importance of Voting?

Well… Many decades ago, not everyone had could vote because it was not a right, it was a privilege. Less than 10% of the society were able to vote. Because of this, the population was divided in social classes, which still exist until today. Equality became just a dream, an utopia. when the democracy’s system and the Human Rights grow into the people, the idea of equality took strength.

What’s Up Today?

Today we still suffer the injustices of the social classes, but at least with the new system, citizens (over 18 years old in Chile) can vote. But sadly, a lot of persons do not give importance to this action, maybe today is a right, however, not always was like that.

In conclusion, voting is an important responsibility. People fought for years so future generations can be part of a system and in one of the most powerful activities that democracy could offer, and we must fulfil it.
